A ray to start your day! We saw this deepsea stingray (Plesiobatis daviesi) while exploring at a depth of 580 meters (1,900 feet) within the Johnston Atoll Unit of the Pacific Remote Islands Marine National Monument as part of the 2017 Laulima O Ka Moana: Exploring Deep Monument Waters Around Johnston Atoll expedition. From the tip of the ray's tail to its nose, it measured nearly 120 centimeters (4 feet) in length, and it was easily 80 centimeters (2.6 feet) across!
