Prior to launching the sonar towfish, a drogue is thrown into the water to steady the towfish. Then the sonar towfish is slowly eased into the water using a little muscle and coordinated movement of the winch and A-frame. Project technicians look over the PROSAS Surveyor towfish for damage as it leaves the ship. Once the sonar towfish is settled in the water, the winch operator pays out cable before turning control over to the team members controlling the vehicle from inside the SRVx’s lab.
