The eastern equatorial Pacific has been monitored by the PMEL Vents Program via an autonomous array of six hydrophones since May, 1996. This area is seismically very active. Red dots on the map are earthquakes detected by the autonomous array during the 1999-2000 monitoring season. Image courtesy of Sounds in the Sea 2001, NOAA/OER.
