The suction sampler of remotely operated vehicle (ROV) Deep Discoverer reaches to collect a ctenophore in the genus Aulacoctena at a depth of 900 meters (2,953 feet) during Dive 03 of the second Voyage to the Ridge 2022 expedition. The suction sampler is an underwater vacuum for collecting biological samples that are too small, too delicate, or too quick to pick up using the jaws of the ROV’s hydraulic manipulator.
