Map compiled in 2011 from ~1,000 museum records of samples of octocorals collected deeper than 50 meters (red dots). The map shows that most samples come from near the coasts of the continents or around the Hawaiian Islands and New Zealand; there is a major gap in sampling of the Central Pacific Basin.
