This blackbelly rosefish laying next to a fish head, prior to eating it, was observed at 334 meters (1,096 feet) during Dive 14 of the Windows to the Deep 2018 expedition. The scientists hypothesized that these fish heads once belonged to midwater fish that the schooling squids (Illex sp.) were feeding on.
