We got a good look at this particularly squishy flapjack devilfish octopod in the genus Opisthoteuthis while exploring at a depth of 959 meters (3,146 feet) during Windows to the Deep 2021 Dive 09. Close imaging revealed clear organs beneath the octopod’s eyes that are of unknown function, but possibly serve as light concentrators.
