Greenland Shark: August 16, 2013

For the final dive of the Northeast U.S. Canyons Expedition 2013, scientists explored a landslide debris field between Alvin and Nantucket Canyons, off the New England coast. During the last several minutes of the dive, a large shark, identified as a Greenland shark, was observed in the Seirios camera view. The shark was then captured on video by remotely operated vehicle (ROV) Deep Discoverer. It was a fabulous way to end a fabulous expedition! The ROV left bottom at a depth of 783 meters (2,567 feet).
