Couesi eggs

Couesi eggs. This ovigerous female scarlet king crab, Lithodes couesi, was taken from 950m on Murray Seamount using the deep–water submersible ALVIN on June 27, 2002. The relatively small amount and large diameter of eggs is typical of a lecithotrophic early life history strategy. Image courtesy of Exploring Alaska's Seamounts 2002, NOAA/OER.
