Deformed Gabbro

Deformed gabbro from the Atlantis Massif. Many of the rocks recovered from near the top of the mountain are highly deformed because of long-lived faulting. This rock has slowed coolly within a magma chamber. This rock was likely deformed at temperatures in excess of 700°C. Image courtesy of University of Washington.
