The two species of shrimp found here at NW Rota-1 volcano. The smaller, paler “Loihi” shrimp graze bacterial filaments with tiny claws like garden shears. The larger, red “alvinocarid” becomes a predator as an adult. Notice their large front claws. Video courtesy of Submarine Ring of Fire 2006 Exploration, NOAA Vents Program.
